Delivering a new home for The Economist
The challenge
The Economists’ editorial function were relocating from their long-standing London home in St James, to new premises in the Adelphi Building. They required a new workplace to be designed and delivered within the restrictions of the art deco building and floor plate. It had to allow The Economist to grow whilst maintaining their strong culture and heritage. The programme was constrained by an existing lease termination and the pre-determined budget had no flexibility to increase during execution.
Our solution
Our team understood the importance of this business change and project for The Economist. Quickly building a strong relationship with The Economist and project stakeholders was key to defining the successful project outcome. We offered an independent team that understood all their requirements, their culture, and provided the dedication to always be available, even after the project was finished.
We successfully achieved ‘first day of business’ on programme, ensuring existing lease penalties were avoided with zero disruption to the newspaper production process.
Our approach focused on understanding the workplace experience brief The Economist had defined. We supported the design team to ensure new editorial workspaces and multi-functional shared workspaces were aligned with the rhythm of business for the development of the weekly newspaper.

As always it will be the design team that ‘take the glory’ but without Seven to make ideas come to fruition it obviously would not have happened. Thank you!
